The Syracuse Orange have a long and storied history in college basketball, with a number of talented players having donned the orange and white over the years. Here are five of the best players in Syracuse history:

  1. Carmelo Anthony: Anthony played just one season at Syracuse, but he made it count. In the 2003 NCAA tournament, Anthony led the Orange to their first national championship, earning tournament MVP honors along the way. He averaged 22.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per game that season and went on to have a successful NBA career, winning a scoring title and earning 10 All-Star selections.

  2. Dave Bing: Bing played for Syracuse from 1963 to 1966, earning All-American honors in each of his three seasons. He averaged 24.8 points per game for his career and led the Orange to the Final Four in 1966. Bing went on to a successful NBA career, earning seven All-Star selections and being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990.

  3. Derrick Coleman: Coleman played for Syracuse from 1986 to 1990, leading the Orange to the national championship game in 1987. He was a two-time All-American and the Big East Player of the Year in 1990. Coleman was known for his versatile game, averaging 15.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game for his college career. He went on to a 15-year NBA career, earning All-Star honors once.

  4. Pearl Washington: Washington played for Syracuse from 1983 to 1986, leading the team to two NCAA tournament appearances. He was a two-time All-American and the Big East Rookie of the Year in 1984. Washington was known for his flashy play and clutch performances, averaging 15.6 points and 6.7 assists per game for his college career. He went on to play professionally overseas and in the NBA for a brief period.

  5. Gerry McNamara: McNamara played for Syracuse from 2002 to 2006, leading the team to the national championship in 2003. He was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player that year, hitting several key shots to help Syracuse win the title. McNamara was known for his shooting ability, setting a school record for career three-pointers made (now since been broken), and his leadership on the court. He averaged 13.3 points and 3.5 assists per game for his college career and currently serves as an assistant coach at Syracuse.

These five players are just a few of the many talented athletes who have represented Syracuse over the years, and their contributions to the program are still celebrated today.
